Happy New Year – Celebrating 75 years of Indiana University Kokomo

The 75th anniversary of IU Kokomo, can you believe it? As I’m looking through these albums, flipping through old pictures I’ve realized something.
Our story is not the new buildings that have housed the learning and experiences that have shaped
us. It’s the people. The people have been telling our story for
years. The students who have graduated and moved
on to serve their communities. The doctors and nurses who have tended our
wounds. Lawyers who’ve fought for our rights. The teachers who’ve been educating our next
generation. The writers and artists who’ve been stirring
our emotions and making us think. The small business owners leading local economies. The Armed Service members who’ve been keeping
us safe. 15,000 students have walked through our doors
in an attempt to make a better life for themselves and their families. Here, these students gain global experiences
to help them prepare for their next step. Think of a life without Indiana University
Kokomo. It’s really hard to picture, isn’t it? The idea of our communities not being
shaped by our graduates? Now, as I look at this picture, I see the
next 75 years. These students are our future. They are community leaders. Tech innovators. And plant managers. They are our Doctors. Our Nurses. And our teachers. These are the people who are taking us into
the future. And I’m feeling a sense of confidence, pride,
and wonder in what they will achieve. As we reflect on what all the students of
the past 75 years have accomplished, we’re turning our gaze toward the next 75. On the
brink of a fresh new year, I’m excited to see our successes continue into 2020 and beyond. On behalf of all the faculty, staff, and students at
Indiana University Kokomo, I want to wish you and your family a very happy new year.
