What’s New at the UoN Bars

What’s New at the UoN Bars

Hey guys welcome back to Yak TV. Recently, two of UON’s iconic bars have
had facelifts, so this week we take a look at the history, the legacy, and the future
of Bar on the Hill and Godfrey Tanner Bar. My name’s Angus Harper, I am involved in
events and student experience at Bar on the Hill and GT Bar. My name is Greg Matthew, I’m part of the
events, music touring side, and also operations side for events, larger events here at the
University. Our role here is to bring that student engagement
back to the Bar on the Hill and to give students the sense of place and somewhere to go and
experience community within the University. I think every good University needs to have
a solid student experience at it as well, just having things to do at University outside
of Academia. We’re trying to do some form of event basically
every night at the start of the week. We’ve got all sorts of things from trivia
to bingo, larger scale events like Autonomy day, Toga party, end of year party, mid year
parties, we’ve done rave bingo, but then also bringing concerts and that sort of thing
back. Bar on the Hill is definitely an iconic live
music venue. I mean it’s unearthed a lot of great Australian
talent. You know and hopefully we can pick up these
acts and also connect them to other venues in town but also to get a good consistent
stream of acts back through Bar on the Hill. Every Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday we’re going
to be doing life music, from about twelve o’clock to two. So we’re looking for local artists to come
and play their original music and also some covers. It’s just a good opportunity to craft their
skill and also that stepping stone to getting onto bigger platforms. The GT Bar has a different kind of dynamic,
which will be used for more softer style of music, but in terms of the bigger artists,
the touring artists, and more production and stage and all those kinds of things, definitely
Bar on the Hill, but they both compliment each other, and we’re quite fortunate to
have two different kind of options there for artists to perform. We’ve done a lot of work on, you know obviously
giving it a new lick of paint, and a bit of a different feel, also to bring these events
back to the Bar on the Hill, so it is that iconic venue that the Bar on the Hill has
been throughout New South Wales and Australia for bands and events for years gone by. I love the new feel of GT Bar, I love that
it’s somewhere you can go and get a great coffee on campus, you can go and sit down,
there’s decent food and a good vibe, and there’ll be some really fun events, you
know trivia, moonlight cinemas, all that sort of stuff are happening over there. Thanks for watching guys, hope this lets you
appreciate the history of the bars a little bit more, and make sure you check out the
fresh new looks and menus of Bar on the Hill and Godfrey Tanner Bar. I’m Layla, and you’re watching Yak TV.
